Triz’s YouTube Debut

It was yesterday morning, July 24th, when I logged in to my Facebook account that a YouTube video was in my Newsfeed, shared by a friend, and is called “Bizarre Phenomenon: Snowfall visits tropical Country Philippines”. As a Filipino living outside the country, it got my curiosity to the core that I ended up playing the video and watching it. It was just a 72-second-video clip and when it was over, I quickly checked the websites that I checked every day for updates back home. There was no mention about that snowfall. I then checked the YouTube channel to see what news agency it was that showed the video and found out that there was no reliable information at all. I then concluded that that snowfall was not a true phenomenon and that the video was just created for the sake of a YouTube trend.

Well, in the afternoon, I have noticed more friends sharing that same video on their walls. For two times, I left some comments telling them that the snowfall isn’t true. And then, another friend shared the video in our group page asking if the snowfall in Philippines was for real. There was an exchange of comments among us and we did further research online about it and then concluded that the video was a hoax. If you have seen the video yourself, with the right thinking, rationale, and judgement, you can tell that it lacked substance, clarity, specifications, and a reliable source. Thus, it was a misleading video, creating confusion and incorrect conclusions among viewers.

We discussed it with my husband and our daughter Triz and we all have the same judgment. Our daughter, as young as 7 years old, already know that snow doesn’t fall in the tropics, much more in our home country Philippines. She has been there a couple times and she remembers so vividly how HOT it is over there. As we were watching the video, she kept bursting out, “That video is just so wrong! That is telling a lie to the people that watch it. It isn’t right to mislead or confuse or let people believe something that isn’t true. Just so wrong!”

And then I asked her, “Are you willing to explain why the video is not real and I’ll videotape you and we’ll post it to YouTube and show it to our friends?” I didn’t expect her to answer “Yes” but she responded, “Will it not be embarrassing and do you want me to do it?” I told her it won’t be embarrassing and that we could try and see if she will be talking about things with sense and is worth watching by the public. I knew she would, based from all of her ideas from our conversations and I know her level of confidence, too.

The next thing I know, I was already holding my iPad with me and we were on our way to the bedroom where her educational globe is. I only told her to say that she is responding to the video about the snowfall in Philippines and she believes it isn’t true and to let her state the reason why. When I signaled go, she was speaking in front of the camera as confident as she was and biased as I may, the result, unedited of course, was impressive! You might want to watch it, I am attaching the video below.

And then, it happened, her YouTube debut!

I posted it publicly on my Facebook wall and friends were able to watched it. It garnered virtual applause from those who saw it and yes, I am a proud Mama! I guess this is a good way of letting her confidence develop some more and encouraging her to continue her academic exploration and objectivity. She was overjoyed to read the comments about, of, and for her, and I reminded her to keep her feet on the ground. She was worried that other viewers might find her wrong of her conclusion but I assured her that we are basing our statements on facts so she need not worry.

This morning, there was one news headline that put clarity on the snowfall issue. This time, it came from a reliable source so it is believable. You can click the image below to be directed to the page.

That news article made Triz feel at ease. At last, she was right to refute the supposedly snowfall in Philippines. It has been 24 hours now since I posted her video on YouTube and as of the current, there’s already over 2 thousand views. That is a Wow, right? It may not be a viral video and I don’t intend to have it become one but it is one that can surely put a smile in the face of someone who watches it. And yes, it deserves a share, too, if you feel like sharing it! Image may be NSFW.
